Notes from Father Jack
August 29, 2010

Dear brothers and sisters,
With great joy I greet you on this weekend as we celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of St. Andrew?s. This is the eleventh anniversary of this wonderful occasion. Having been here for one year now, I have a greater sense of the history that has brought us to this point. God has prepared the way and he is continuously showing us where he wants us to go in order to grow. How much this community has grown is amazing and I see so much potential for future growth. There are so many things that we can do if we work together.
We have begun the process of our long range planning in order to realize the plan that was originally laid out for us. A few things have changed since the mid-nineties when the master plan was originally set down, so we have a bit of work to do to rearrange a few things on the campus and discern what direction we want to go, but we are going to do our best to realize the master plan that has been handed on to us.
As we discern what direction we are headed at St. Andrew, the main focus will be how to best utilize the space we have and build what we will need for the future. On the top of the list are the hall which, we so desperately need for parish functions, and the rectory that will be greatly beneficial in the long run as it will give us the ability to house an assistant priest, a retired priest, and the occasional seminarian (God willing). We also need to look into building classrooms for religious education and offices for administration. We currently have the modular buildings, yet they are only temporary. As we look to build for the future we need to do the best we can to give the next generation a strong foundation on which to build. If we do all the work of constructing the physical buildings around the campus, then it will be up to them to continue the work of building the communion and spiritual life of the community.
As I said above, a few things have changed since we moved over here in 1999, yet one thing remains the same, Jesus is the one guiding us on to realize His kingdom, His plan for us here in the world.
God willing and weather permitting, we will be having a Eucharistic procession after the 10:30am Mass to celebrate this wonderful occasion. I hope that it will become a new tradition. In the Eucharistic procession, we walk with Christ, truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament, around the grounds. It is a great sign of our willingness to follow Him wherever he leads, and of His constant presence and care for us as His people. May Jesus enlighten our hearts to show us where He wants us to go, and how he wants us to get there. If we all pray for this intention, God will surely show each of us how we are to play a part in the building up of His body here on earth.
In the Love of God that guides us always,
Fr. Jack D. Shrum
